Enjoyable Time In Tunisia

Tunisia is a beautiful Arab country, which is only two and a half hour flight from the United States. This country has a lot of interesting things to do, great food to taste and many friendly people. Visiting Tunisia feels like going to a different side of the world.

I first visited the country as a child and even then, I was intrigued with the culture and the people. Never have I met a nation so friendly and eager to please than the Tunisians. They truly are very welcoming and will do anything for you.

There are two main airports in Tunisia - Monastir is the main tourist airport, which serves most of the main holiday resorts here. Tunis, in the capital, is home to more international flights and business flights. Tunis is a very historical city in the north of Tunisia - ideal for a sight-seeing holiday.

Further south, one of the most popular resorts is Hammamet - this is one of the oldest resorts in Tunisia, home to an old walled Medina housing, many souks and little Tunisian cafes, where locals go to unwind and smoke the pipe!

Tunisia is home to many hotels, ranging from two stars up to five - one thing you will notice about Tunisia are the beaches - miles and miles of pure white sand stretching right the way along the coastline. Hammamet is home to a lovely beach, with many water-sports available and even camel riding, which is definitely an experience!

Further along, there is the new purpose-built resort of Yasmine Hammamet - my personal favourite! This is home to a palm tree-lined promenade, a fashionable marina surrounded by upmarket cafes and restaurants - and the seafront houses many of its new four and five star hotels - there is also a new medina again, housing many little souks, gift shops and cafes where the locals tend to meet up after work!

Next to the medina, there's a theme park called CarthageLand, which is great for the kids, with many water-rides, etc.

Further along the coast you will find the popular resort of Port el Kantaoui - mainly known for its stylish marina and again many nice upmarket hotels, this has been a firm favourite with holiday makers for years. A ten minute stroll from here brings you to Sousse, which I believe is the largest tourist resort in Tunisia. I visited Sousse years ago - it's very nice - again a lovely beach and an old walled medina, which is home to the market here, where you can pick up locally-produced goods such as leather items, pots, ceramics and even local delicacies.

Sousse is also the busiest resort, so if you're looking for a bit of hustle and bustle then this is the resort for you, as it has a busy town with many shops, bars and restaurants, catering for both locals and tourists alike.

Skanes and Monastir are the other two main resorts, located just 5 minutes from Monastir airport - you tend to find the cheapest accommodation in these resorts - I would say these are most popular with families, due to the close proximity with the airport, as some of the other resorts can be over an hour away.

I've spoken to a lot of people about holidays to Tunisia and the main response is "No I don't fancy Tunisia". My advice is don't knock it until you've tried it! Of all the places I've ever been, this is my favourite. The weather is lovely, there's a lot to see and do, the food is good and the people are just lovely.

Don't forget it's also very close to the Sahara Desert, so you can do a Jeep safari too - so go on, try a holiday to Tunisia! I guarantee you will love it.
